Ros Roslyn has been with the Springvale Animal Hospital for four years in July 2008. She is originally from Western Australia, having completed her veterinary degree at Murdoch University in Perth - she drove across the nullabor with her Border Collie family to settle in Victoria in 2001 and has been here ever since!
Roslyn has worked exclusively in small animal medicine as a vet, and enjoys the challenges and variety of work that a veterinary career offers. She enjoys working with all animals, but her main passion – as many of our clients will know – is dogs, in particular Border Collies. Roslyn lives with a bevy of them and devotes all her spare time to training them in agility, jumping, conformational showing, freestyle and is also a registered breeder of Border Collies.
Roslyn has additional qualifications to being a vet – she originally studied science and completed a Double Major of Biology and Biotechnology with First Class Honours, and a PhD in Veterinary Microbiology before deciding that she wanted to apply her knowledge of genetics in the veterinary field, allowing her to combine knowledge with passion.
She is especially interested DNA testing for genetic disease in purebred animals, and is certified to take PennHip radiographs for Canine Hip Dysplasia. Roslyn has also completed Postgraduate Studies in Veterinary Behaviour, with her vast experience in training and understanding dogs being a prime motivation for this. At Springvale Animal Hospital her tasks include regular consulting, soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery, DNA sampling, OFA and PennHip radiography and behavioural consultations.
RuthDr Ruth Barrett grew up and went to School in Melbourne. She studied performing arts and biology before studying Veterinary Science at the University of Melbourne, and has been working at the Springvale Animal Hospital full time since graduating with Honours in 2005. She lives with her partner and an assortment of birds, rabbits, and wildlife.
Ruth has had a special interest in birds and exotic species since she was a young girl, and was pleased to accept a position at Springvale Animal Hospital, which has enabled her to practice exotic medicine as well as the more usual dogs and cats.
She has a particular interest in wildlife medicine and surgery, and is a licensed wildlife foster carer. This has seen possums, magpies, ducks, baby birds, and even a wombat share her home. In her spare time Ruth enjoys reading, travel, and has recently started a course in beginners circus arts.
